The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike Esq has pledged to change the conditions of the judiciary system in Abia State by modernizing the courts and strengthening the bar and bench if elected in the 2027.
Anosike made the declaration in a chat with newsmen during a meeting he held with Abia State Lawyers attending the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Abia PDP candidate who decried the deplorable state of affairs of the judiciary system under the administration of Governor Alex Otti, said judiciary workers in the state have on four different occasions embarked on strikes in protest over the poor welfare and conditions of service of its members.
He said the judiciary system in the state lacks financial autonomy, infrastructural deficits and poor monetary compliance, noting that the judiciary has not been able to achieve it’s mandates and institutional programmes due to inadequate funding from the state government.
He said the essence of the meeting was to intimate Abia lawyers of his ambition as well as his visions to strengthen the judicial system, empower the bar, and to modernize and equip the courts with ICT, if elected governor of the state.
The governorship candidate who expressed dismay that courts in the country still depend on manual recording of cases, described as stressfully retrogressive and hectic that judges still use long hand writings instead of computerised recorders in court proceedings.
“Kelechi has come as a solution to the problems in Abia State. So I am the answer to all their prayers for the State,” he said.
Anosike also pledged to undertake massive infrastructural development of the capital city, Umuahia, regretting that the Alex Otti administration has instead of developing the capital city, moved the seat of Abia State Government to his village in Isiala Ngwa.
“So Umuahia is not developing because the seat of power has been moved. So we will bring it back.We need to move the capital to where the power resides and develop the city as a modern capital,” he said.
