There are moments when courage must stop whispering and begin to speak. The bold decision of Hon. Gloria Boma Harry to step forward and seek the mandate of the good people of Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency is one of such moments.
Here is a woman who has spent years telling the stories of society through the pages of newspapers as a journalist and story writer. Today, she is daring to move from writing the story to becoming part of the story.
What a beautiful paradox: the woman who once reported the struggles of the people is now stepping forward to confront those struggles from the legislative chamber.
Her journey through the platform of the PDP is more than another political ambition. It is a reminder that women must not remain spectators in the theatre of governance. They must come to the table where decisions are made.
Degema and Bonny are blessed with water, history, culture and enormous natural wealth. Yet, like much of the Niger Delta, we continue to witness the painful paradox of wealth beneath our feet and hardship in the homes of our people.
