IGP Disu Seeks 200% Increase in Gratuity for Retired Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has proposed a 200 per cent increase in gratuity for retired police officers.

Disu said the proposal is part of efforts to address long-standing welfare challenges confronting personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

He added that the proposal is currently being considered by the Presidential Committee set up to examine the concerns of police personnel and recommend sustainable solutions to the pension crisis in the Force.

The committee comprises representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, the Budget Office of the Federation, and the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

The proposal is also expected to address protests by serving and retired police officers demanding their exit from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
