Disu Commends RHI Support for 1,638 Families of Fallen Military, Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday attended the presentation of financial support to the families of fallen heroes of the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force.

The event, organized by the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme, took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday, August 27, 2026,

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the second edition of the initiative targeted families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty since the inception of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In total, one thousand six-hundred and thirty-eight (1,638) families of deceased police officers received financial empowerment packages designed to help rebuild their livelihoods and cater to their dependents.

The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; along with Service Chiefs, President of POWA and wives of heads of security agencies.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, IGP Disu expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu and the First Lady for the intervention, describing it as a profound demonstration of national gratitude and compassion.

Disu noted that the Renewed Hope Initiative goes beyond just policy, it is about restoring dignity and standing with our citizens at their most vulnerable moments.

Addressing the bereaved families, he assured them that the supreme sacrifices of their loved ones would never be forgotten by a grateful nation.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its personnel and providing continuous support to the families of its departed heroes, Disu said.
