Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has denied reports of a fresh disagreement between the Executive and Legislative arms of the state government over the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The government, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, described the reports published in some national dailies and online platforms as misleading.
According to the statement, Governor Fubara is not at loggerheads with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly but is rather working closely with them in the interest of Rivers people.
“We wish to make it abundantly clear that His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is not at loggerheads with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, but rather working closely with them to serve the good people of Rivers State,” the statement said.
Nzeshi explained that the 2026 budget proposal has already been presented to the House of Assembly and is currently undergoing the normal legislative process.
He expressed optimism that once the legislative scrutiny is completed, the budget will be passed by the lawmakers.
The CPS noted that the Fubara administration remains committed to cooperation between the executive and legislature to ensure peace, stability and development in the state.
He recalled that the state had experienced turbulent political times in the past and stressed that the government is not prepared to be dragged into another round of controversies.
“The Rivers State Government has gone through difficult times in the past and is not prepared to be dragged into another round of controversies,” he stated.
The government therefore called on those behind the negative narratives to desist, saying peace and harmony are needed to sustain the steady development of Rivers State.
“We therefore advise all those bent on promoting negative narratives to desist from such actions forthwith as we need peace and harmony to ensure steady development of Rivers State,” the statement added.
The clarification comes as the House of Assembly continues deliberations on the 2026 Appropriation Bill presented by Governor Fubara.
He added that the administration is focused on delivering its development agenda and will continue to prioritize dialogue and collaboration with all arms of government.
