Imudje Celebrates at Unenurhie as Son Obtains Ph.D

By Young E. Freeborn, Warri

It was moments of joy and celebration for the members of the Imudje family of Unenurhie community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as their son, who is an Anglican priest, Rev. Dr. Gentle Omohwo Imudje, successfully became a ‘Doctor of Philosophy’ in his chosen academic career.

Breaking the news to his children and to other community members that gathered in their ancestral compound, the father and head of the Imudje family, Mr. Frank Imudje, said, “It’s a thing of joy to announce to all of you today that our son and big brother, Rev. Gentle Omohwo Imudje, is now a certified Ph.D holder in this family and also in our community. He’s not here at the moment, but we want to join his immediate family and his church to celebrate the good Lord that saw him through the academic programme in areas of prayers and financial support. He has just added a new feather to his divine hat.

“We are glad that our family can be counted today among families in the community that have produced Ph.D holders. At least, we should give thanks to God and also to his bishop, the Bishop of Warri Diocese who afforded him the opportunity and freedom to complete the Ph.D programme. When the time comes, our brother would be here in person. We just want to break the good news to our members today,” he said.

In the same vein, another member of the family, Mr. Oghenekaro Okpodoko, said, “Truly, it’s a great achievement for my uncle and also for us the younger ones in this family. This will really spur us to have interest and zeal to pursue our educational careers. In Nigeria today especially now that the rate of unemployment amongst graduates is becoming uncontrollably high every day, it’s very very difficult to go for a second degree, let alone a Ph.D for those that managed to cross the boundary to the higher institutions.

“So whenever there is this kind of good news in a family or community, the youths and younger ones find joy to go to school so that they would be celebrated in this manner. Therefore, we will try as much as possible to emulate our uncle who has climbed to the pinnacle of his educational pursuit. He is worthy of emulation by Unenurhie youths. We give God the glory.”

The short celebration however ended with a prayer from their old mother, Mama Imudje, who is well above the age of ninety years. The nonagenarian prayed for more blessings and promotions for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren wherever they are living across the globe.

The Rev. Dr. Gentle Omohwo Imudje, is the vicar of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Ugbolokposo, Uvwie LGA of Delta state in Warri Diocese (Anglican Communion).
