The Olotu’Rode of Evwreni kingdom, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Jabin Omoko, has added his voice to the internal unrest rocking the Evwreni community with the gospel of peace and reconciliation.

The Evwreni defence minister made this call when our correspondent visited him at his shrine, as he was duty bound by the traditions and custom of the Evwreni people to appease the gods of the land from time to time.

Addressing our reporter during a short spiritual service, the Olotu’Rode said, “For some time now, Evwreni has been thrown into internal unrest and there’s misunderstanding everywhere. The unrest led to where some of our youths were murdered. And it’s a very serious situation. The cause of all the internal struggle was as a result of leadership tussle in the community.

“As one of the key leaders in the community, I can’t add fuel to already burning fire by supporting one party or the other. My position as the Olotu’Rode of the community is to pray for peace, progress and total reconciliation of all aggrieved parties in this issue of leadership. I want to beg all those that are concerned in this matter, to sheathe their swords.”

He added that, “This is why as our tradition demands, of this my traditional position, I always pray to this deity called Echekpa (The Queen-Mother) to restore peace to the community. Our people say, a herbalist shouldn’t visit an evil forest for a second time. We have had enough of internal crisis. We don’t need more of crisis in Evwreni again. The one we had in 2000 when our monarch was murdered is enough. I pray that our Queen-Mother should restore peace by bringing all aggrieved persons together for total reconciliation.

“I want to plead with our brother, Chief (Engr.) Samuel Adjogbe, the immediate past EDP in the NDDC board whose brother was murdered in the crisis to temper mercy with justice. And to all that are deeply affected one way or the other in the crisis to accept and toe the part of reconciliation and forgiveness. This is where we can move forward in this community.”

Also speaking during the spiritual event, the Olotu’Rode of Unenurhie community, Comr. Moneyard Edjere, supported his counterpart by also praying for peace to prevail in the entire Evwreni kingdom.

“Evwreni and Unenurhie are one kingdom. One is incomplete without the other. Whatever that happens here also happens to us as one people. Gone are the days when some of us would be nursing divisive tendencies especially from the axis of my community. We can’t continue to live like enemies. This is why I have to join my brother with whom we are holding the same positions to pray for the peace of not just Evwreni as a community but the entire Evwreni kingdom. In fact, internal crises are too rampant in the kingdom. Every little thing, fight and kill. We are tired to spill the blood of our own people. The gods of the land are not happy. This is why we should stop this everyday fighting. Let there be peace in Evwreni,” he prayed.

The spiritual event was witnessed by other members of the defence body and those considered to be adherents of the deity.
