The Coordinator of Customs Zone C, Port Harcourt Zonal headquarters, Assist Comptroller General (ACG) SK Dangaladima has paid a visit to the Customs Eastern Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, as part of his tour of commands in the zone.
ACG Dangaladima charged officers and men of the Eastern Marine Command on discipline and commitment to duty as he promised to make a representation to the Comptroller General of Customs for the construction of a befitting office for the Eastern Marine Command.
He noted a decline in discipline among officers and men, declaring that a directive has been given to the Customs police to ensure discipline is maintained among the officers and men.
He insisted that any officer found wanting would be treated according to the lay down rules of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Speaking on the recently concluded examinations for promotion, the Zone C Customs boss said the “Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, is not sentimental or partial over the promotion exercise.
“All of us were there marking the scripts shared to us under the supervision of the CGC. We don’t know the owners of the scripts we are marking. Any score you get, is a reflection of what you wrote,” he said.
He advised that officers should remember that promotion is not a do or die affair, adding that “Promotion must surely come one day, promotion comes from God.”
Speaking on the importance of training, Dangaladima said the CGC has made it mandatory for officers and men to always embark on self development.
“Either you go for the Junior Officers Course or Senior officers Course. And going forward, such would be one of the criteria for your promotion,” he said.
He further advised that regular health check-ups should be mandatory for officers and men, while also reiterating the essence of always being in constant contact with one’s family.
ACG Dangaladima described the Area Controller, Eastern Marine Command, Comptroller CC Dim, as a team player, who is among the new breed of Customs officers thatl always make a mark anywhere you find them. One of such officers is the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whom Dangaladima said has distinguished himself as a thorough breed officer, who knows everything about Customs.
Dangaladima also used the opportunity to congratulate the CGC, on his emergence as the Chairman of Council, World Customs Organisation (WCO)
ACG Dangaladima however, praised the level of collaboration and synergy between the Customs Eastern Marine Command and other sister agencies especially the Nigeria Navy
On the issue of office accommodation, Dangaladima said he would liaise with the Comptroller General of Customs and his management team to work out modalities for the Eastern Marine Command to get befitting office space.
Earlier in his address, the Customs Area Controller Eastern Marine Command, Compt CC DIM, expressed satisfaction with the visit, adding that it has accorded him and his officers and men the opportunity to interact with ACG Dangaladima
He informed ACG Dangaladima that his relationship with stakeholders and other sister agencies, most especially the Nigeria Navy, was very cordial, which in turn has earned the command numerous awards.
