It was celebration galore at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Ughelli North Local Government Area, on Wednesday as the party received Hon. Fidelis Adjogbe and others, numbering over a hundred that decamped from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Receiving Hon. Adjogbe and his political followers into the PDP fold, chairman of the party in Ughelli North LGA, Pastor Kess Numuoja, supported by other party executive members and elders, told the decampees to be assured of their support and encouragement.

The party chairman said, “PDP is the foundation of modern politics in Nigeria. It is the largest political party in Africa. The symbol of our party is umbrella. I want to tell you that, the umbrella is big enough to accommodate everyone. We don’t discriminate or look down on people in our party.

“No doubt, this is your own party. We are very happy to receive you and your teeming followers back to your party PDP. You are like a lost child and we are happy to find you with so many followers like this. With people like you in the party now, victory is sure in Evwreni ward and also in the local government area.

“PDP is fully committed and ready to rescue Nigeria from bad and poor government through the 2023 general elections. As a party, we are committed to the victory of our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate who is also our dear governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. It’s a project we must invest in. Once again, we happily welcome all of you back to your party, the PDP,” he said.

Assistant secretary of the party in the local government area, Mr. Hezekiah Ugbuwiako, and the woman leader, Mrs. Eseoghene Mercy Eyaunu, advised Hon. Adjogbe and his followers not to be distracted by anyone within or outside the party from pursuing his political dreams.

The duo remarked that Adjogbe is a political heavyweight considering his family background and political foundation in Evwreni town. They also joined the chairman to welcome all the decampees into the PDP.

Responding to the chairman’s speech, Hon. Fidelis Adjogbe who was highly elated during the event said, “As many of us are aware, PDP was our original party. We were just like children who thought, their mother was no longer the best cook they used to know until they tasted other people’s food. In this case, we have tasted other people’s food and discovered our mother’s food is still the best.

“Truly, we went out to join another party based on circumstances beyond our control. Unfortunately, we discovered that PDP still remains the best political party in Nigeria. It’s the best in my ward, Evwreni ward. We can never regret coming back to the PDP as our own party.

“We want to inform you that for us in Evwreni ward, Governor Okowa’s project is our own project and it’s dear to our heart. This is just the beginning. More persons are going to join us in PDP in Evwreni ward. Therefore, we can assure you that victory for all PDP candidates is certain and uncontestable in Evwreni ward in the 2023 general elections,” he said.

Also speaking, another notable and highly respected political leader in Evwreni ward, Prince Matthew Uba, in his remarks, applauded their leader, Hon. Adjogbe for “taking the right step at the right time.”

He cited various reasons for leaving the APC to join the PDP. He however advised all other decampees to remain steadfast and be committed to the Adjogbe struggle for progress and victory, assuring them of true dividends of democracy at the end.
