Tension in Rundele as OSPAC Commander ‘Shoots Youth Leader Dead’

There is tension in Rundele Clan, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State over the killing of the Youth leader of Mgbuolua community, Mr. Okechukwu Eleonu, allegedly by former OSPAC commander in the area, Mr. Oguchika Egbo.

Mr. Eleonu was on Saturday allegedly shot dead by Mr. Egbo who had accused him of working as a police informant against him, and that he was one of those who gave a tip-off that led to the destruction of his illegal bunkering site in the area.

According to a community source, Egbo who was allegedly stripped of his position as Rundele’s OSPAC commander “due to his arrogance,” while he has also allegedly vowed to kill the younger brother of his victim, Mr. Zeruwa Eleonu.

Widow of the late youth leader, Mary Eleonu, has however cried out for justice, calling on the Rivers State commissioner of Police to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the OSPAC commander.

She described the death of her husband as painful and unbearable.

Meanwhile, concerned indigenes of Rundele clan have called on the state government, the state commissioner of Police, and other security agencies to investigate the killing of the community youth leader.

Describing the incident as unacceptable, they called on the paramount ruler of Rundele clan, HRH, Barr. Damian Ejiowhor, Rundele elites and other stakeholders in the area to “rise up, stop the madness of the former OSPAC leader and ensure he is prosecuted for unlawful killing of the youth leader.”

They said, “We are surprised that 4 days after, he is still moving freely in the community. We learnt that he even allegedly threatened to kill all the policemen that came after him, and make their wives widows and they left him.

“We are using this medium to call on the commissioner of Police, Emohua council chairman and the leadership of Rundele clan to stop Mr. Oguchika Egbo now before things go out of hands.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said they are working to ensure the trigger-happy former OSPAC commander is arrested and made to face the law.
