School Proprietors In Rivers Celebrate ‘NAPPS Day’

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Rivers State last week marked the association’s 13th anniversary with the theme, ‘Re-­engineering Nigeria Education System for Effective Nation Building,’ in commemoration of the ‘NAPPS Day.’

Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, who was the special guest at the event, lauded Rivers NAPPS for contributing immensely to the development of education in the state, adding that the state has a lot of private schools that have met the educational standards of the state in terms of infrastructure and quality of teachers.

The commissioner also said that the state government will continue to partner with private schools in the state to ensure quality.

He urged substandard schools to immediate put in place strategies to upgrade their schools, saying “very soon, the information of every school in the state will be in the state education website for adequate verification.”

Rivers State NAPPS President, Chief (Hon) Victor Green, presenting an address by the association’s National President, Dr. Dame Sally Adukwu Joko, said that a national educational policy is usually the vehicle for the actualization of her development, with the return of democracy in 1999 the national plan is now focusing on non-oil economy, adding that for this to be achieved the nation is now looking up to education to proffer solution through researches.

He however, noted that this cannot be achieved “if our educational sector is not engineered and public schools alone cannot achieve this lofty dream except in collaboration with private schools.”

In an interview, Chief Green added that Rivers NAPPS is committed towards the re-engineering of education in the state by adhering strictly to the educational policies of the state, adding that NAPPS in the state is also at the forefront of upholding qualitative standards in private schools through periodic seminars.

The state NAPPS President further said that the association will fully support the governor of Rivers State to come back in 2019 because of his support for the association in particular and education development in general.

Also in attendance were Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Rivers State Amaopusenibo Dagogo Hart and Asime Dandison Brown, Desk Officer, Rivers State Ministry of Education.
