Rivers APC Challenges Fubara over ‘100% Increase in IGR’

By Godwin Chukwumaechi

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, over his recent announcement that his administration has improved the state’s internally generated revenue by about 100% from what obtained during the previous administration.

The party challenged the governor to explain to the public the indices and variables that necessitated the supposed increase in the internally generated revenue of the state.

Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, made the challenge while reacting to Governor Fubara’s claim that government has raised the state’s IGR from N13 billion to N27 billion.

He asked the governor to elucidate and clarify the indices and variables upon which the acclaimed increment came about.

Speaking to journalists in his office in Port Harcourt, Okocha said; “What the governor did was to announce to Rivers State that the monthly IGR has increased, without stating the circumstances that warranted the supposed increment.

“Maybe the governor would have informed us if, within the period in review, more companies and industries have come to Rivers State and, as such, more revenue has been generated through tenement rate or other payable rates”.

The APC chairman, therefore, challenged the governor to come clean, and call for a press conference, where he will address Rivers people on this issue, “the policies and achievements of his government that is almost a year old, among other issues, and allow room for questions from Rivers people. Anything short of that will amount to the fact that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is deliberately lying to Rivers people.”

Commenting on the just concluded PDP NEC meeting, the Rivers APC boss declared that the door of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter was wide open to receive any aggrieved member of the PDP into its fold.

He emphasized that Rivers APC was “ready to take over the government of the state come 2027 and will continue to benefit from PDP’s self-inflicted internal squabbles.”
