Residents of Oro-Owo Community in Rumueme Kingdom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State are counting their losses following another round of devastating flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in Port Harcourt.
The affected residents have appealed to the Rivers State Government for urgent intervention to address the persistent flooding that has continued to plague the community.
Speaking with newsmen, some residents lamented the extensive damage caused by the flash flood, noting that homes, businesses, and valuable property were severely affected.
They explained that the recurring flooding frequently disrupts movement and economic activities within the area, while also posing serious health and environmental risks.
The victims further called on the Rivers State Government and relevant authorities to urgently come to their aid by implementing lasting solutions to prevent future occurrences.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Oro-Owo Community Development Committee (CDC), Eze Otuonye, stated that several appeals and complaints made to appropriate authorities over the years have yielded little or no response.
He urged the government to take decisive action by addressing the root causes of flooding in the area and improving drainage infrastructure to safeguard lives and property.
