Omehia, OCJ, Others Extol New PHCCIMA President, Mike Elechi

Former governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia, former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), OCJ Okocha (SAN), president of the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Ide John Udeagbala, and chairman of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, among others have extolled the virtues of the new president of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce (PHCCIMA), Eze Sir Mike Elechi.

This was as the new PHCCIMA president, other members of the new executive and elected council members were formally inaugurated into office in Port Harcourt last Tuesday.

Describing the new PHCCIMA president as a man of impeccable character who will entrench growth, bring about peace and an all-inclusive leadership that will take the chamber to a new height, the former governor and others congratulated him and the new chamber executive on their emergence.

They called for closer synergy with government and other business interest to attract investment and stimulate the local economy.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, urged those that are yet to register with PHACCIMA to hurry and do so in order to meet up with the current speed of the organisation.

Alabraba, anchored his point on the passion that the new president and his team have for the body, thus the hope for its movement forward.

Also, the former president of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Hon Onueze C.J. Okocha, said that Elechi would do the expected owing to his wealth of experience as a career civil servant and a successful businessman cum manager and chief executive officer of the Vintage Farm and Products in Elele, Ikwerre Local Government of the state.

In his address, the new PHCCIMA president, Eze Sir Mike Elechi said: “My acceptance to serve this organization has taken me through various positions of responsibility in PHCCIMA, hence in service and dispensation of my duties as president, I will strive to entrench my known virtues of patience, openness and the ability to listen to all sides of any issue.”

He noted that he has set a new course for this administration for the next three years with three broad fundamental guiding principles which include: Member-oriented and inclusive programme and opportunities; Increased scope of programme dispensation and internally generated revenue and consolidation of growth, peace and oneness of members.

Similarly, he disclosed that efforts will be geared towards bringing back the monthly PHCCIMA meetings to encourage and allow for company and individual interaction, networking, intra trading/marketing and growth towards the benefit of PHCCIMA members, pledging to develop calendar of member-oriented programmes and opportunities, increased trade mission travels and access for member benefits.

Eze Elechi also promised to develop beneficial bilateral national and international affiliations and a new PHCCIMA Trade and services platform. According to him, the new PHCCIMA trade fair office will be strengthened, institutionalized, and engage various government – state and local governments – with business strategies especially those in the non-oil businesses.

Hear him: “this administration will reactivate and strengthen members Welfare Desk to ensure that member activities are captured and well attended by PHCCIMA family, to enhance our brother’s keeper policy, develop and innovate new internal platforms, mechanisms and income generating ventures using PHCCIMA’s comparative assets advantages.”

Elechi noted thus:, “it is clear that there will be a deliberate effort to shift focus to the individual and collective member companies, carrying out activities to bring benefit to every member company, and reaching out to members and others individually and collectively to bring more ideas,” as he urged members to join forces with him and his administration on this “evolutionary and ambitious path of inclusion.”

The new PHCCIMA president who described himself as a man of peace, said he is aware that growth can only occur where there is peace, hence he shall do everything to seek peace, while remaining firm and strong on principle and unshakeable in resolve towards service.

The event was a roll call of crème de la crème of society, including royal fathers, politicians, corporate entities, friends and well-wishers who attended en masse to identify with the new president.

There were goodwill messages from NACCIMA President, represented by his vice, Dr Emi Membere Otaji; FOSSIMA President; Ikwerre, and Obio Akpor LGA chairmen; Chief Oris Onyiri; with the presence of PHALGA chairman, Hon Allwell Ihunda, Emohua LGA, Chidi Lloyd, former commissioner for Works, David Briggs, HRM Eze Leslie Nyebuchi Eke who was the father of the day among other royalties.

Highlight of the event was the inauguration of the new PHCCIMA executives by past president of PHCCIMA, and chairman of the CAC, Elder Hyke Ochia.
