‘How Okrika-Born Geologist Triumphed in America, with Only $23’

Port Harcourt City recently witnessed the official launching of a book titled: ‘My American Journey: How I Made It With Only $23 In My Pocket: President Obama Helped Me.’

The motivational book, authored by Inemibo Kalada Opuiyo, attracted personalities and book lovers to an epoch event, held at Somitel Hotels.

Chairman of the occasion, Princess Dr. Tina David-Iga, commended the author, adding that the book will provide a veritable platform for people, especially the youths, to tap from. She encouraged people to persevere in life, no matter the challenges and obstacles, pointing out that the author was inspired and imbued with a vision to excel and achieve greatness.

She poured encomiums on the versatile author, whom she described as a determined and purposeful personality.

The author, Inemibo Kalada Opuiyo, in his notes on the book, said his humble background prepared him for future challenges, adding that his dream to succeed in life was faced with numerous difficulties, coupled with financial constraints.

However, he struggled and traveled to the United States America, through the assistance of his mother and other caring relations, with only $23 in his pocket.

Excessively brilliant, Opuiyo, who bagged double distinction at the famous Okrika Boys School, went through the rigours of life with determination to succeed, which propelled him to dare the rough waters.

He landed in the United States of America against all odds and attended the State University of New York, and graduated as a geologist.

Opuiyo was also tutored by the world’s renowned geological science educators, with an internship at the American Geological Society.

He lived in America for over twenty-nine years and bagged several awards of Excellence and commendation, including a letter of appreciation from President Bill Clinton in 1993.

Opuiyo was close to Presidents Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter. He further disclosed that President Obama assisted him in so many ways.

The book reviewer, Chief Gogo Ada Rufus, applauded the giant feat recorded by the author, who went through rough times to achieve success.

Nevertheless, the author whom he described as a visionary man stood his ground with dint of hardworking, faced challenges and difficulties squarely and came out stronger and successful.

“If you flip through the six-chapter book, it is evident that if you persevere in life, with great determination, success awaits you in future.

‘This book is motivational in all ramifications, because every page and chapter will definitely provoke you to aspire to always achieve and be what you want to be, who you ought to be in life and so on,” Chief Ada Rufus said.

He encouraged readers of inspirational books to purchase the book, because it is loaded with moral principles that can change the fortunes of one’s life for the better.

Port Harcourt based publisher, who anchored the event, Sanni Iyagba, extolled the virtues of the author for painstakingly writing the book, adding that the motivational book will spur people to greater heights.

He advised Nigerians to take advantage of the book launch and purchase the book.

Iyagba described the book as a pointer to develop the world through hard work, determination and humility.

He further advised the youths to imbibe the culture of reading inspirational books, noting that “books you have read do not go out date.”

Guests who spoke to our reporter disclosed that they were impressed with the author for presenting a lovely book to the world.
