Customs Area 1 Surpass Revenue Target By N300m

Despite low patronage and Importation of goods at the Rivers Ports, the Nigeria Customs Service Area 1 Command has recorded improvements in most areas of operation since the assumption of office of the new area controller, Compt. Kabiru Isiyaku.

Our reporter gathered that in a bid to improve efficiency and ensure a well motivated command, the area controller has embarked on projects that include the renovation of dilapidated buildings and offices, provision of medicament at the command’s clinic, as well as in-house capacity training for officers.

Compt. Isiyaku said these projects are geared towards making the working environment conducive for the men and officers of his command, and also promoting efficiency.

The capacity building particularly became necessary, he said, due to the mass transfer from Enforcement Unit to the port, and to ensure maximum revenue collection as at when collected as well as blockage of revenue leakages

Of note, however, is that despite the challenge of low Importation at the Rivers Port, the area command whose statutory function includes collection of revenue, through import/excise duties and other taxes/levies, has reportedly surpassed its revenue target for the month of August by N300,000,000.00 ( three hundred million naira), netting a total of N2,981,822,836.95 ( Two billion, nine hundred and eighty one million, eight hundred and twenty two thousand, eight hundred and thirty six naira ninety five kobo).
