Bayelsa Assembly Denies ‘Impeachment Plot,’ Passes Vote of Confidence on Speaker

Members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Tuesday denied alleged impeachment plot against the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere, declaring absolute confidence in his leadership.

According to the Assembly members, the alleged claim that the Speaker, Abraham Ngobere, absconded with the mace to avoid being impeached is a figment of imagination of those that do not mean well for the political stability of the state.

Hon. Tari Porri, the member representing Ekeremor Constituency 1, while moving a motion to reaffirm the confidence of the House on the Speaker for quality and unifying leadership of the 6th Assembly, said the claims about the disappearance of the Speaker with the mace was laughable, adding that “the 6th Assembly has done well under Hon. Abraham Ngobere.

Hon.Porri noted that the State Assembly is where democratic stability of a state is built, the alleged claims against the Assembly leadership should not be allowed, he said, adding that “under the Ngobere leadership, the House has passed 10 bills and multiple motions including the Prosperity Bill.”

The minority leader, Chief Samson Awudulu (Nembe 3), who seconded the motion, led other members of the Assembly, including Hon.Mieteme Obodo (Ogbia 1), Hon. Wisdom Fafi (Kolga 2), Hon. McDonald Igbadiwei (S/1 4),Hon.Salo Adiekumo (Salga 3), Hon. Bernard Kenebai (Salga 2),Rt. Hon. Tonye Isenah (Kolga 1), Hon. Oboku Oforji (Yen 1) and Hon. Koku Obiyai Ebiuwou (Yen 2) to pass a vote of confidence on the speaker.

While Hon. Salo Adiekumo labeled those behind the alleged impeachment plot as ‘bad belle’ politicians, Hon. Tonye Isenah said though the State Assembly had such issues of alleged impeachment in the past, “the 6th Assembly under Speaker Abraham Ngobere have shown that they don’t know what those behind the alleged plot are talking about.”

On his part, Hon. Koku Obiyai Ebiuwou (Yen 2) said the present 6th Assembly have witnessed considerable peace, adding that ”we are comfortable with you as Speaker. You are humble and a unifying factor to the House members. We are solidly behind you.”

In his response, the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Abraham Ngobere commended the House members over their position on the alleged plot against him, ”I am assuring members of my commitment to the growth and stability of the House. Even the opposition members in the house have attested to the inclusive style being adopted in the affairs of the House. The opposition party members have shown maturity towards the business of the House.”
