Odutemu Conduct Confirmation Service at Unenurhie, Charges Members to be Steadfast

It was celebration of love and joy amongst new communicants and other new members of the different groups of the Ughelli Diocese, Anglican Communion at the St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Unenurhie in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State recently as the church hosted this year’s confirmation service at the Evwreni Archdeaconry.

The service which was conducted by the Archbishop of Bendel Province, Most Rev’d C.O. Odutemu, who is also bishop of Ughelli Diocese, supported by other senior clergy of the church, saw girls admitted into the Girls Guild, while women were admitted into the Women’s Guild and Mothers Union, and a man into the Fathers’ Union of the Ughelli Diocese.

The Archbishop also confirmed over twenty new communicants from the various churches in the archdeaconry as to partake in the Lord’s Table. 

Archbishop Odutemu charged the new communicants and new members admitted into the various groups in the church to be steadfast, dedicated and committed to their service in the church and to humanity and the society at large as true Christians and disciples of Christ.

“With your confirmation and admission into the different groups of the church today, we therefore charge you to be steadfast, more dedicated and committed to the service of the church and to also show the virtues of true discipleship to the society at large. Let your characters and behaviour portray you as true Christians, by removing your hands and hearts from every evil or anything that is connected to paganism. Preach the gospel of Christ with passion to the world to bring those in darkness to the true light,” he said.

Speaking to our correspondent after the service, Miss Oghenefejiro Rita Edafe, one of the girls admitted into the Girls Guild of the diocese expressed appreciation to the archbishop and his wife and other members of the clergy over the confirmation service.

In the same way, Mrs. Blessing Edjereki who was admitted into the Mothers Union of the diocese thanked the archbishop and his wife for conducting a fair confirmation service that made them to be responsible wives and mothers in the church, their homes and in their various communities. 

In separate remarks after the service, the vicar of the host church, Rev’d Canon A.E. Onoyasakpo and the Archdeacon of Evwreni Archdeaconry, Ven. G.O.A Ujevwecha expressed appreciation to the archbishop and his wife as chief celebrants in the service and to other members of the clergy in the diocese.

“On behalf of St. Mark’s Church and the entire Evwreni Archdeaconry and all the new communicants, we have nothing to offer our father in the Lord and his lovely wife than to thank them for creating this precious time to conduct this year confirmation service for us. We are indeed grateful to them. Again, we want to thank our colleagues and sons of the archdeaconry from other dioceses that joined us in today’s confirmation service. We thank Ven. Dr. & Mrs. U. A. A. Dafiewhare, Ven. Dr. & Mrs. R.M.U Obegor, Ven. & Mrs. Charles Esegba, Rev. Okposio and others. They have been very supportive to us in the archdeaconry. We also thank all of you for participating in this divine service. Finally, we thank the Almighty God for His continuous mercy and grace upon His church.”

The confirmation service witnessed the presence of the archbishop, his wife, Mrs. C. O. Odutemu, senior clergy of the church and members, including the president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison.
