It was a celebration of dignity and respect for the marriage institution recently as Mr. Smith Oghentejiri Oyibokure, an undergraduate from the renowned family of Chief and Chief Mrs. Jabin Okiemute Oyibokure of Uwheru kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, wedded his heartthrob, Miss OkeOghene Augustina Mukoro, also an undergraduate and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Mukoro, of Orogun kingdom, also in Ughelli North LGA.

The wedding ceremony, which was held on Saturday June 25, 2022 at the All Saints Cathedral, Ughelli town saw the presence of the ‘who is who’ in both Uwheru and Orogun kingdoms, including family members, church members, friends and well wishers.

It was a wedding service to behold as the bride and the groom were radiant in their wedding gown and suit to the admiration of the congregation and guests.

In words of appreciation to dignitaries and guests on behalf of the two families and the couple, during the reception event, an elder brother of the groom, Mr. Irorohwo Goodluck Oyibokure, who is a lecturer at the University of Delta, Agbor said, “Words won’t be enough to show our sincere appreciation to all of you for attending this wedding ceremony right from the church service down to the reception ground here. Indeed, you have made us proud and great today.

“We are happy that our brother and sister have today legally come together as husband and wife. They indeed proved the worth of their Christian lives by respecting the marriage institution as the practice in the Anglican Church. It’s therefore my prayers for them to start to enjoy their marital bliss and blessings from today in peace, tranquility, love, integrity, holiness, patience and understanding in Jesus name,” he said.

Meanwhile, as tradition and custom demand in Orogun kingdom and in the entire Urhobo land in respect to the payment of bride price in institutionalizing the process of marital consent and vow of the bride with regard to the Urhobo marriage institution, Mr. Smith Oyibokure, in company of his family and friends from Uwheru kingdom, visited the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Mukoro at their Ughelli residence to fulfill all marital requirements as required by Orogun kingdom marriage committee.

The traditional marriage, which saw the participation of select members of both families, passed through different stages and processes. The final stage of the traditional marriage was the presentation of marriage certificate to the groom, Mr. Smith Oyibokure by the bride’s family, and the traditional escort of the bride to the groom’s family residence at Uwheru town by married women and members of the bride’s family with the chanting of sonorous and love songs.
