A business mogul and high chief from Edo State, Chief Ogbebor (aka Edo I) has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to allocate more funds to education in the country especially in the 2019 budget.
Ogbebor, popularly known as Edo I by his friends and associates made the remark in Port Harcourt during the Call to Bar celebration for Barr (Miss) Ruhuoma P. Chinda who graduated from Cardiff University London (UK) and was recently called to Bar, after her training at the Nigeria Law School, Abuja.
According to High Chief Ogbebor, even though the 2019 budget had just been submitted to the National Assembly by the President for deliberation and passage, the current allocation given to it is not encouraging enough and would not take the country forward. He passionately called on both the executive and the National Assembly to increase the allocation given to education. “Education is the bedrock of development in any nation and for Nigeria to move forward as a nation, our leaders have to take education serious.”
The Edo chief said the Federal Government is moving at a snail speed, hence the economy is not strong enough even though the country have been pulled out of recession. “Imagine recently the President’s wife, said there are two persons in the presidency working against the administration wheel of progress. Who are these two persons? Nigerians want to know and the President’s wife could have mentioned their names,” Ogbebor noted.
He said the poor system of Education in the country has actually forced many vibrant intelligent youths to flee the country to foreign countries in search of acquiring higher academic qualifications ” if our educational system is in order and perfect, certainly the amount of foreign exchange spent on Education abroad could be spent on other important sectors,” Edo I noted.
The celebrant, who is a daughter of HRM Sir, Raymond Emenike Chinda, Nye-Nweli of Oropotoma and the paramount ruler of Oropotoma kingdom was described by Chief Ogbebor as a pride to the family ” she is humble, hardworking, intelligent and God fearing lady”.
“My relatives and cousins encouraged her to go in for Law programme and I am delighted that she did not let us down. Honestly, she is a pride to the family,” Chief Ogbebor noted.
In his remarks, Chief Iyalla, who is the manager and personal assistant to Chief Ogbebor (Edo I), said the friends and associates of Chief Emenike Chinda of Oropotoma are happy over the successful graduation of Barr. Ruhuoma Chinda.
