It was jubilation galore for the pupils of Unenurhie Primary School, Unenurhie in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday, as free books, pencils and educational items were distributed to pupils of the school.
The philanthropic gesture was described as educational support for the pupils by a community leader in Unenurhie as part of his contribution to the development of education in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the donor, who sought to be anonymous, Mr. Young Erhiurhoro, a former Secretary-General of Unenurhie Community told the pupils to be serious with their education.
He noted that some of them would in future become governors of the state, wives of governors, commissioners, members of House of Assembly and other great men and women of honour in the community and the country at large.
Erhiurhoro enjoined staff of the school to be committed to the task of teaching and mentoring the children as their own biological children.
In her remarks after the donations, the headmistress of the school, Mrs. Ogilo Stella – Maris thanked and appreciated the donor for his love to promote education in the community.
Speaking on behalf of the other staff and the pupils, Mr. Okpe Thank-God, a Primary Two teacher, lauded the donor’s kind gesture.
He however said the school at the moment was short of admission and asked the community leadership to work on how to boost the school’s admission in the next academic session.
The event however ended with the sharing of the educational items to all the pupils of the primary school that were gathered in the assembly field.
