‎This edition of the Bayelsa Media Awards (BMA) has been boosted by the addition of the SDD Prize for News Editor of the Year category, bringing to four the categories endowed in the name of the  Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri.

‎In the last three editions, the governor had supported the BMA and endowed three other categories, namely SDD Prize for Newscaster of the Year, SDD Prize for Presenter of the Year, and the SDD Prize for Reporter of the Year.

‎Winners in each category will get a N500,000 cash prize and a tablet.

‎This gesture again demonstrates the Governor Diri’s commitment to uplifting the media industry and showcasing his dedication to nurturing the creative space.

‎According to his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the Bayelsa Chief Executive appreciates the role of the media in promoting his administration’s policies and projects.

‎He promised to continue to support positive endeavors in the media, highlighting the importance of a thriving media landscape in the state.

‎The Project Manager, Victor Binawari, expressed appreciation for the governor’s love for the media community and the state.

‎He said the gesture would motivate media practitioners to strive for professionalism and excellence.

‎Mr. Binawari also congratulated the governor on the 29th anniversary of Bayelsa State’s creation, commending him for matching words with action, particularly with the recent procurement of a 60-megawatt gas turbine that would ensure 24-hour power supply in the state.

‎He emphasized that the completion of the project would industrialize the state and boost its economy.

‎The BMA serves as a platform to recognize and reward outstanding media practitioners who have made significant contributions to the state’s growth and development.
