Traditional Ruler of Oyigbo Urban in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eze Kingsley Akobundu Worgu, the Ezeoha IV of Oyigbo Urban, has lamented the menace of flooding during raining seasons in the area.
Eze Akobundu who spoke to newsmen in his Palace in Oyigbo town on the challenges of the area, expressed dismay over the age long neglect of Oyigbo in the development plans of the Rivers State Government and appealed to state authorities to assist the people to curb the menace of flooding which he said has been disturbing the area during rainfalls.
The Oyigbo monarch equally called for the intervention of government on the deplorable state of roads and other social infrastructures in the area pleading that Oyigbo kingdom should not be overlooked and abandoned in the development plans of the Government.
“This place is home to over 3m people of Rivers State. People are moving away from the area because of the flooding situation. We need good road networks, electricity, water supply among other social amenities. Oyigbo needs liberation,” the Ezeoha stated.
Eze Akobundu also felicitated with the newly elected Chairman of the Council, Hon. Okechukwu Akara and the entire Oyigbo Local Government Executive and legislative Council over their recent victory at local Council elections, describing them as men of sound and progressive mind who will move Oyigbo forward to the next level of development.
He urged them to rise up to the occasion and tackle the myriads of challenges facing the Local Government including the issues of Kidnapings, robbery, stealing and other evils happening in the area. Eze Akobundu also charged those elected into the leadership of the Council area to be magnanimous in victory in the spirit of sportsmanship and carry everyone along in the schemes of development in the Local Government Area.
