NCDMB Announces N1 Million Star Prize for 2025 Undergraduate Essay Competition

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has officially announced the commencement of the 2025 edition of its Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition.

The 2025 annual edition of the Undergraduate Essay Competition is in the ninth year which is aimed at promoting academic excellence and deepening awareness of local content among Nigerian youths, especially those in tertiary institutions.

Speaking on the launch of the 2025 edition, the NCDMB’s consultant, Mr. Eyinimi Omorozi, described the program as a flagship academic initiative of the Board, dedicated to encouraging intellectual engagement among undergraduates in both public and private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

This year’s theme is “Sustaining Local Content Policies in the Transitioning Oil and Gas Industry.”

According to Mr. Omorozi, the essay topic reflects the ongoing global energy transition and emphasizes the need for homegrown strategies to maintain Nigeria’s stake in the evolving oil and gas sector.

“The program is not only about academic excellence,” Omorozi noted, “but also about preparing young Nigerians to effectively participate in the oil and gas industry and to build the skills necessary to create value for the country’s economy.”

Submission of entries officially opened on August 1, 2025, while interested students are encouraged to submit their essays online through the official website, www.ncdmbessay.ng.

The grand prize for the winner of this year’s competition is a cash award of N1,000,000, while each of the top ten finalists will receive a brand-new laptop. The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on September 26, 2025, at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The competition remains one of the Board’s key youth development initiatives, fostering a new generation of thinkers and innovators who are equipped to drive the Nigerian Content agenda forward.
