The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), also known as Pyrate Confraternity, has challenged the Federal Government and states to take tackle the “worrisome and arbitrary” hike in house rents in the country.

The NAS, OXbow Marino Deck, said despite the state and Federal Government policies on housing in the country, the policies have failed and many Nigerian families are becoming increasingly homeless due to the challenges surrounding rental prices in Nigeria.

The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), also known as Pyrate Confraternity, made this known during the celebration of the annual feast of Barracuda, 2024 with the theme “the impact of economic trend on rental prices”, insisting that such economic, social and legal factors leading to arbitrary increase in home rents should checked and controlled.

The event, which hosted over 50 participants including visual and physical attendance of family guests and Seadogs across the Oxbow Marino Deck, deliberated on rent challenges in Bayelsa and some other parts of the country.

The guest speaker, Mr. Collins Boleigha Esq, pointed out some legal and economic benefits and challenges surrounding rental prices in Nigeria.

He also addressed the economic challenges faced by tenants, where constant inflation of goods and commodities and unemployment can affect affordability.

The NAS Cap’n, Oxbow Marino Deck, Mr. Ebi Ayerite, while commending the turn out for the event, highlighted that the Annual Feast of Barracuda 2024 was more than just a celebratory gathering for the NAS.

It serves as a platform for social discourse, raising awareness about critical issues in Nigeria, he said, adding that by combining celebration with social commentary, the NAS demonstrates its commitment to both its members and the nation’s development.

It was also revealed that NAS Feast of Barracuda served as means of charitable activities of the NAS, and past speeches and themes of the Feast of Barracuda could offer deeper insights into the NAS’s focus areas and their evolving concerns over time.
