Unenurhie PG Supports Community Reconciliation, As Youth Chairman Sues for Peace

By Young Erhiurhoro, Warri

The president general of Unenurhie community in Evwreni kingdom, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Peter Maison, has expressed his support, and that of his executive cabinet, for the community reconciliation process set up by his government, in collaboration with the Odion’Rode-in-Council.

Speaking to our correspondent after an enlarged meeting held at the Odion’Rode’s palace, which included chiefs, elders, women leaders, youth leaders and the ‘Ilotu,’ on the issue of reconciling all aggrieved persons and victims of the crisis that rocked the community over ten months ago, the security expert and business tycoon said, “Truly we are just recovering from the effects of the crisis that rocked the community recently.

“We lost a dear life in it and also lost several properties worth millions of naira. So many people were victims of the crisis. It caused enmity and hatred in the entire community; brothers fighting against their own brothers. This is why we thought it wise that there is every need for us to forgive one another and to also reconcile all our differences.

“As a result of the crisis, so many people who made themselves oppositions ran away from this community to seek refuge in other neighbouring communities. We want to use this opportunity to tell them that plans are already on top gear to reconcile the issue. Let me therefore strongly appeal to our people especially our youths to keep far from violence. We should learn from our numerous mistakes.

“Now that full reconciliation wants to take place, we should try as much as possible to protect the name of this community from evil and crisis. Once again, the entire community is in full support of the reconciliation process and it will work out for our good,” the president general said.

Speaking in the same vein, the youth chairman of the community, Mr. Diamond Friday, aka ‘Ogbo,’ who represented the youths in the meeting said, “In fact, I’m the happiest person over this reconciliation process. We the youths of the community are in full support of the reconciliation. From this very day, we reject the evil name of crisis from this community. It’s our prayers that good things will begin to visit us here.

“I still want to join my president-general to appeal to all those that ran away from the town during the crisis to accept the terms of the reconciliation with good faith and total forgiveness. This is the only way peace will fully take its root in this community. All the crises we have had so far should serve as deterrent to us especially we the youths. We are always the victims of every crisis. This present leadership is billed to restructure and make positive changes in the community. Let’s all join to build this town and not to destroy it again,” he said.

Meanwhile, dates for reconciliation meetings for all the parties involved in the crisis are yet to be fixed by the Odion’Rode-in- council as there was yet to be an approved social or cultural event to mark the reconciliation process in the community.
