Tinubu Is Not a Magician ~ Frank Owhor

By Ebube Egbufor

Former attorney general of Rivers State, Barr. Frank Owhor, has urged Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu administration, and afford him the space to see how he could salvage the country which economy was almost destroyed by the previous administration.

Owhor who spoke in a recent interview with newsmen at the Obafemi Awolowo International Airport (formerly Port Harcourt International Airport), Omagwa said it is unfair to begin to judge Tinubu now or to think that he would do magic to turn around the economy.

He pointed out that the Nigerian economy which the president inherited had been battered by the previous government who, according to him did not know the left from the right, stressing, “and so if the economy of this country has almost been destroyed by the previous government, this new government will apply all measures to ensure that things are ameliorated.

“It is therefore the height of foolhardiness by anybody to begin to judge that the president who has been in office for less than 5 months will begin to do magic in an economy that was already destroyed before he came in”.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to lead Nigeria to the Promised Land as he did not become president by chance but has prepared very well for the position.

“My confidence and trust in Tinubu is that he is the most prepared president Nigeria ever had in the sense that he had been preparing to be president of Nigeria for a very long time and he was a good governor of Lagos State who performed creditably while in office”, he said.

Describing the president as an astute politician and entrepreneur, having distinguished himself in both politics and the private sector, Owhor believed that he would not let Nigerians down, adding that with time, things would begin to unfold in the interest of everybody.

He noted that there are some things that would have immediate results and others long term results for us to begin to have some changes and expressed confidence in the competence of the crop of people the president has appointed to work with him.

Commenting on the rate of borrowing by the Tinubu led-government, Owhor pointed out that being an accountant, the president knows the significance of borrowing and over- borrowing, noting that he knows what it means to ensure that what is borrowed is utilized appropriately.

On the possibility of the refineries licking off by December as promised by the president, he assured Nigerians that Tinubu would keep to his words as he had in the past fulfilled his promises to the people of Lagos State. “When he made some pronouncements in Lagos he did them, so making pronouncements at the federal level, he can’t do otherwise considering his history”.
