Tanker Inferno: Rivers NAWOJ Urges FG to Expedite Repairs on East-West Road

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Rivers State chapter, has mourned the “tragic and preventable” inferno that occurred at the Aleto Bridge in Eleme Local Government Area, on Friday night 26, April, 2024.

State chairperson of NAWOJ, Susan Serekana-Nwhikhana, said that “the devastating incident, resulting in loss of lives and immense suffering for families, underscores the urgent need for action to address the deteriorating condition of the Eleme axis of the East-West road.”

According to the statement, “despite numerous appeals to draw attention to the dangers posed by the dilapidated road infrastructure, little action has been taken.”

NAWOJ urged the Federal Government to expedite ongoing road works and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the root causes of the recent inferno.

The association expressed their solidarity with the families of the victims, the Eleme community, and the Rivers State Government during this difficult time
