Saraki: Nigeria Needs A Competent Leader ~ Hagher

By Amos Odeh, Yenagoa

The chairman of Senator Bukola Saraki Advocacy Campaign Team, Prof. Ayorwuese Hagher, has said Nigeria is in need of a competent leader that will salvage it from collapse, noting that the country is in an emergency situation.

He said the nation’s problem is not just “in economy that have been ruined by few corrupt people,” but includes the problem in the educational system that “had been ruined, and that the present administration has not catered for the young people, has not carter for the poor, which is why many Nigerians are sending their children outside the country to find university for themselves.

Prof. Hagher made this known this during the team’s visit to the Bayelsa State secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party in Yenagoa.

According to him, “the problem of Nigeria is not that we lack security and we cannot sleep in our homes with our eyes closed, the problem of Nigeria is not only that, tribalism has moved full circle and is controlling the federal government, along with nepotism and all other things that have made honest people with their honest enterprises not to get a decent living; but that the problem of Nigeria is lack of leadership.

“We do not have a leader to make the country great; that is why in this coming dispensation, we want Bayelsa delegates to join other Nigerians to anoint Bukola Saraki as president. Saraki will make Nigeria a country of our dream. In 2023, we must produce the calibre of leaders that will be respected across the world”.

He said the South South and South West have benefited from the zoning arrangement, adding that the North Central must also be allowed to benefit.

Earlier, a member of the entourage, Prince Lekan Olateru said, “In Nigeria under APC led government, you can’t go to Kaduna on the road, neither can you go by the air; you can’t go by the rail either.”

He said “Nigeria’s economy is suffering because of inefficiencies and the way government of the day runs the country’s oil and gas. We are in a serious problem in Nigeria and if care is not taken, God forbid, we may not have Nigeria three years from now.

“That is why we are here, because during tough times like this, we begin to take extraordinary actions and that is why we have come to tell you that we need a president that can be a Nigerian president, not a regional president.

“The president that can provide solution to these problems that we are facing, and if you look at the president we have been having until Jonathan came to power, we didn’t even have any president that has a degree, and look at the Western World, the people that gave us this independence, look at the way they are ruling their own, they produced presidents in their forties and it’s producing results for them.

“How can we continue in the old order and be expecting a good result, Nigeria needs competency, what is going on in Kaduna,  if we are proactive enough, it could be addressed. If we have a digital president, if we have a president that believes in technology, we don’t have problems that is insurmountable, problems we have in Nigeria are not natural problems, they are man-made problems, so if we can come together, we can solve it.

“So that is why I’m appealing to PDP delegates, that when you get to the primary, vote conscience, vote for your children’s future and what you believe Nigeria should be in the future.

“Dr Bokula Saraki is the one when it come to age, between the old and the young, he is in between, you will be proud of him, if you talk about competences, two-time governor two-time senator, a medical doctor, he is well respected globally.

“The problem of Nigeria is beyond zones, you need somebody that can handle things concerning every section of the country unbiased”.

In his response, the chairman of People’s Democratic Party in Bayelsa State, Mr. Solomon Agwana, while welcoming the Bukola Saraki Consultative Advocacy Team said, PDP wants to give Nigeria a responsible government, adding that they believe in good leadership.

He said all the indices “we are seeing in the country today shows that Nigeria is a failed state,” adding that the change that APC brought has almost consumed the country.

He noted that in the wisdom of the National Working Committee, as they came onboard, they decided to plan on how to rescue the nation, adding that senator Bukola Saraki is part of that plan.

He described Senator Bukola Saraki as a man of integrity, competence, experience and a man that represents all strata of life. “He is a man that has contributed immensely to the sustenance of democracy. As a Senate president, we know what he went through and is a man who believes in Nigeria.

“When he realized that he was in a wrong party, nobody spoke to him but in his wisdom decided to return to PDP where he belongs. I believe PDP, as a party, we have made our mistake and we have realized our mistakes, now we want to provide good leadership to Nigeria and Saraki has the pedigree.

“He is a man of integrity, a man of character and a man of competence. All the committee members here don’t need anybody to profile Saraki for us. He is a beacon of democracy in this country and he has actually prepared himself in all the offices he has occupied and had excelled.

“If we don’t get the best this time around, I don’t know when we are going to get it. As a party we need to give the best to the country

Agwana said APC as a party promised three cardinal points which is to tackle corruption, nepotism and insecurities, but today he said “nobody has seen any successes recorded in the three critical sectors.”

Members of the entourage include Prof. Ayorwuese Hagher (chairman), Dr. Cletus Akwaya, Dr. Musa Ibrahim, Prince Lekan Olateru, comrade Bindu Judith, Senator Shaaba Lafiagi, Engr, Hassan Husseini, comrade David Itopa, and Alhaji Aliyu Maigari
