The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Rivers State chapter rolled out the drums to celebrate the 16th anniversary of its existence, with the theme: ‘Curbing Rising Spate of Insecurity – Way Forward for Education in Nigeria.’
The event which attracted personalities from all walks of lives had in attendance the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, proprietors and other stakeholders.
In his address, president of NAPPS in Nigeria, Chief Yomi Otubela, commended members for their courage in delivery of quality education in the country, adding that he is impressed with their activities.
“I salute the courage of BOT, NEC, CWC members, various leaders and distinguished NAPPS members in their quest and resolve to remain undeterred in the face of challenges imposed on us as a result of the pandemic and the current spate of insecurity in the country which has continued to have negative impact on our ability to carry out our responsibilities of providing quality education for the benefit of the Nigerian child,” he said.
Similarly, the chairman of NAPPS in Rivers State, Dr. Roberta Tekena Dosunmu, lauded the giant strides of NAPPS in the state and beyond and attributed it to a formidable team work by members who stood firm in the face of numerous challenges.
She decried the ugly spate of insecurity that has bedeviled the country and tasked government at all levels and security personnel to swing into action in tackling the menace.
She enumerated action plans towards the growth of the schools such as, providing internal security and ensuring that entry into schools during lecture periods are controlled and regulated, database of persons authorized by parents and guardian for collection of pupils/students at the end of school and many more.
Chairman of the NAPPS Anniversary planning committee and vice chairman of NAPPS, Rivers State chapter, Comrade Sunday A. Jaja, noted that NAPPS has come a long way over the years.
He said NAPPS is complementing the efforts of government in providing quality education for the children in the state and beyond, adding that the anniversary day is set aside to have appraisal of their activities and to improve on it.
Comrade Jaja appealed to government to address the issues of multiple taxation, insecurity and infrastructure for a more purposeful and sound educational growth of the state and country.
He lauded the governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for his proactive steps in rendering quality services to the people of the state and the education sector.
Rivers State Commissioner for Education, represented by Asime Dandison Brown, congratulated NAPPS for forging a common front over the years and tasked them to be more efficient in rendering quality educational services to the children.
Proprietress of Hallel College and 1st elected President of NAPPS, Dr. Mrs. Edna Opara, Victoria Sergeant Awuse and others expressed delight over the event.
They commended members for their bond of togetherness and assured of their commitment towards the growth of NAPPS and also providing an enabling atmosphere for pupils and students.
There was a unique presentation by Pst. Afolabi Adun, who gave an update of the growth of schools. He equally presented awards to NAPPS and the chairman of NAPPS, Rivers State Chapter.
Cultural performance by Dayton Model School Port Harcourt and Divine Praise Nursery/Primary Schools, Bunu-Tai added colour to the event.
