Rivers Government Urges Youths to Consider Nigerian Army Career Opportunities

The Rivers State Government has encouraged youths across the state to consider a career in the Nigerian Army as an opportunity to serve the nation, acquire valuable skills and prepare themselves for positions of greater responsibility in the future.

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, made the call during an interaction meeting between representatives of the Nigerian Army, traditional rulers and youth leaders from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

Dr. Wokoma noted that the strength and effectiveness of the military institution largely depend on the quality of young men and women who join its ranks and progress through the system.

“Today’s recruits and junior officers are the senior commanders and leaders of tomorrow. Young people who join the military have the opportunity to build impactful careers that positively affect their families, communities and the nation,” he stressed.

The leader of the sensitisation team from Army Headquarters, Abuja, Brigadier-General B. U. Ugbaji, also urged youths to join the military and become part of the effort to sustainably build the nation.

He explained that, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate for the recruitment of 28,000 personnel, it was important for youths in Rivers State to take advantage of the opportunity and ensure that the state’s quota is fully utilised.

“As important as other vocations are, it is important that we take our place in the affairs of the state. The quota from this region is reducing. In the future, we may not have representatives,” he stated.

Brig.-Gen. Ugbaji encouraged interested youths to meet the necessary requirements and apply for the ongoing 92 Regular Recruit Intake for trades and non-tradesmen and women. He further assured prospective applicants that, beyond career advancement, the Nigerian Army also provides opportunities for educational development.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Gbenemene and Kasimene of Ancient Bangh Kingdom VIII, HRM King Suanu T. U. Baridam, pledged that the traditional rulers would return to their respective constituencies to further engage youths and sensitise communities about the ongoing recruitment exercise.

The interactive session, which brought together youth representatives from the 23 Local Government Areas, also provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions and receive clarifications on the recruitment process.

The online application for the recruitment exercise closes on October 21, 2026.
