The Rivers State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sir Amairigha Edward Hart, has been honoured by the Niger Delta Media Practitioners of Nigeria, NDMPN, for excellent service delivery.
The Commissioner was presented with the ‘Most Distinguished Commissioner of the Year 2026’ award in Urban Development and Physical Planning by the organisation during a brief ceremony at his office in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Presenting the award, NDMPN Convener, Amb. Joseph Asomeji, said the recognition followed an assessment of the Commissioner’s contributions to restoring Port Harcourt’s Garden City status through beautification and urban renewal.
He congratulated Sir Hart on his appointment by Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara and noted that the Commissioner had recorded several milestones within a short period, including effective management, compliance monitoring and improved revenue generation for the state.
Asomeji said the visit was also designed to encourage public officials delivering on their mandate, adding that Governor Fubara places high premium on the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Asomeji explained that NDMPN is an association of journalists from the Niger Delta committed to promoting development in the region.
He appealed to the Commissioner to support the group’s next CSR project, in the donation of learning aids at St. Andrew State Primary School, Diobu, scheduled for Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Responding, Sir Hart thanked NDMPN for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to the city beautification and urban renewal agenda of the Fubara administration.
He stressed that inter-ministerial collaboration is key to achieving government policies and urged media practitioners to ensure accurate dissemination of information to the public.
The Commissioner commended NDMPN’s CSR initiatives and promised that the Ministry would participate in the sponsorship of the September 10 project.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of an award plaque to the Commissioner by the Deputy Chairman of the NDMPN Board of Trustees, Pastor Gospel Oziri.
