Protection of National Assets, NSCDC Seeks Synergy with EMR

The Rivers State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it will work in synergy with the Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) for enhanced reportage of its operations and the security of the vital maritime oil and gas industry including other national assets.

State commandant, Aliyu Bature, stated this in his office on Monday, December 13, 2021 during a courtesy visit by executive members of EMR in Port Harcourt.

Bature, who thanked the group for the visit, noted that it was necessary for the NSCDC to work with EMR since the group has to do with Maritime oil and gas which is a key concern and an area of mandate of the corp.

He said: “It is important for us to work with you because most of our activities have to do with the public, and for the public to understand our doings, it is you that will take the information to them.

“Sometimes, we do operations in the night while most of the people are sleeping. But the following day you will come up, see us and we show you the arrests we made and some suspects we have and you carry this information to the grassroots. So, your coming is very important.”

He emphasized that the command would need synergy with EMR in terms of information gathering and media advice, since the media proverbially have their ears to the ground and would hear more both as gossip and confirmed information.

Earlier, the chairman of EMR, Mr Martins Giadom, stated that partnership between EMR and NSCDC would help both groups to perform better and assist the corps more in its national assignment.

He stressed the need for the NSCDC to organize seminars and sensitization forums to enlighten communities on its activities and the dangers of illegal exploitation of the oil and gas sector of Nigeria’s economy.

In attendance at the session also were the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, Assistant Commandant Mike Oguntuase, the head, Oil and Gas Operations, Assistant Commandant Fyneface Omiete, and the head of the anti-vandals unit, Assistant Commandant Abdullahi Musa.
