Police Begin Manhunt for Killers of Officer in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command said that it had launched a manhunt for the killers of an Inspector in Port Harcourt yesterday.

The PHMundial reports that some unidentified gunmen had on Friday opened fire on the police officer around Landmark Hotel at D-Line axis of Oroworukwo Community in Port Harcourt City local government area of the state Obasanjo Port Harcourt and made away with his rifle and berret.

The incident, we gathered happened few minutes after the gunmen had successfully robbed a shawarma vendor close to the scene of crime.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Grace Iringe Koko in statement released in Port Harcourt on Saturday confirmed the incident.

The statement reads, “On 25/08/2023 at About 2030hrs (8pm) information was received that one Inspector ‘m’ attached to Department of Operations, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State was fatally shot on the head while escorting his principal around Landmark Hotel at Oroworukwo, Olu Obasanjo Port Harcourt. His rifle and berret was carted away.”

She said patrol teams were immediately mobilized to the scene effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recover the rifle.

Meanwhile, the corpse of the officer has been deposited at Military Hospital Port Harcourt for Autopsy.
