Following the recent attacks on Elder Andrew Uchendu by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike at an event in Omagwa, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers State over the weekend, younger brother to Elder Uchendu, Engr. Chika Uchendu has called on the minister to leave his brother alone.
The incident occurred last Saturday as the former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, was burrying his mother at Ubima.
The younger Uchendu in a statement said it was improper for Wike to be calling out his brother who is an elderstatesman and a former member of the Federal House of Representatives for Ikwerre/Emohua Constituency.
Uchendu said the day was for mourning and not proper to be calling out persons politically.
He said whatever differences between him (Wike) and his elder brother can be settled privately without calling out each other in the public.
Engr Uchendu noted that his elder brother grew from grass to grace in the political landscape of Rivers State at a time many who are now insulting him were nowhere to be found.
”I find the public confrontation involving my elder brother deeply unfortunate and unnecessary. A solemn occasion meant to honour the departed should not become an avenue for political attacks or personal exchanges.
”I therefore wish to respectfully appeal to the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to allow my elder brother to rest and to refrain from further public exchanges with him, ” he said.
He said political association and party affiliation are matters of personal choice and conviction, stressing that no individual should be compelled to belong to a particular political camp or be subjected to personal attacks for choosing a different political path.
”Honourable Minister, I am therefore appealing to you as a concerned younger brother to let this matter end. If there are grievances or misunderstandings between you and my elder brother, I believe they can be resolved through a private conversation rather than continued public exchanges,” he appealed.
