The National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Rumuola Unit in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has raised an alarm over alleged disobedience to a subsisting court order and called on security agencies to take note.
The Union drew public attention to what it described as flagrant disobedience to an interim injunction issued by the Rivers State High Court in a suit involving the Union and other parties.
The interim order, granted by Hon. Justice Sobere Biambo, restrains the defendants from interfering with the activities and functions of the NURTW, Rumuola Unit, pending the determination of the substantive matter before the court.
In a statement signed by it’s Chairman, Comrade Julius Uzoma, the Union said the alert became necessary following threats by the defendants to embark on strike action, which it considers a deliberate attempt to interfere with its lawful operations despite the court order.
The defendants in the suit are Christopher Ezeali, Registered Trustees of Commercial Drivers Welfare Association, Registered Trustees of Drivers Welfare Club Nigeria, Registered Trustees of Self Employed Drivers Welfare Initiative, and Rivers Drivers Cooperative Union Limited.
The NURTW Rumuola Unit called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to take note of the actions and utterances attributed to the defendants, particularly the alleged disregard for the subsisting interim injunction of the High Court.
The Union urged all parties to respect the rule of law and allow the judicial process to run its course, rather than take actions capable of disrupting peace and lawful operations in the transport sector in the state.
It reassured members of the public of its commitment to the rule of law, stating that it will continue to pursue the matter through lawful and constitutional means.
