National Scramble Tourney: Prosperity Cup DG Lauds Diri, Others

Director General of the Prosperity Cup, Mr Ono Akpe, has commended the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, for the successful hosting of the maiden edition of the Governor Diri National Scrabble Championship, held in Yenagoa, the state capital.

In a statement released in Abuja, Mr Akpe said the just concluded event was another milestone achieved by the governor, who is less than two years in office.

According to him, the continuous giant strides recorded in the sports sector was due to the massive support by the governor, following the state’s feat at this year’s National Sports Festival, and the state-owned football team, Bayelsa United, which is aiming hard to gain promotion to the elite league.

He added that youths of Bayelsa, especially those in the subsector, should brace up for more tourneys.

Akpe congratulated the chairman, state scrabble association, Mr Daniel Alabrah, for organising a hitch-free championship, in the heart of the Ijaw nation, adding that this is as expected of him, going by his “personality and passion for sports development in the state.”

Alabrah, who is also the chief press secretary to the governor, was further commended for calling for attention to be paid to scrabble, especially in schools, since lots of Bayelsans have potential for the sport.

The former head, Media and Events (Abuja) to the former Bayelsa governor, also thanked the Youth and Sports Development Commissioner, Hon. Daniel Igali, and the president, National Scrabble Federation, Suleiman Dora, for their collaborative efforts towards the success of the tournament.

He used the statement to congratulate the winners in the various categories of the competition.
