IYC President, Igbifa, Tackles NDDC, Berates Activities

President of Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Dcn. Peter Timothy Igbifa, has called on the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to immediately resolve all pending issues related to the Foreign and Local Scholarship programme under their watch.

He said “it is totally unacceptable to see the deplorable conditions our scholars go through in the United Kingdom and in Nigeria when the commission has what it takes and more than enough funds to cater for their bills.

“The IYC under my watch will not tolerate this reckless behaviour of the commission forthwith. I wish to warn that the NDDC will have to contend with the IYC Worldwide in the coming days, should this and other issues linger on”, Igbifa assured.

The NDDC, according to sources, reportedly “abandoned” scholars pursuing several degree programmes in the United Kingdom to their fate, following the inability of the interventionist agency to pay their take-off grant and other bills.

The commission also could not provide their tuition fee and living expenses of about $30,000 (11.6m) Naira.

Some of the students are now deregistered and are now left with no other option than to engaged in menial jobs to make ends meet
