IYC, Eastern Zone Holds Congress, Inaugurates CECO

Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eastern Zone, has constituted its Clan Electoral Committee (CECO) in a congress held at Okuru Ama, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Speaking at the well-attended event that witnessed a mammoth crowd, IYC’s Eastern zonal chairman, Hon. Comrade Tamunotonye Kpokpo, charged the new CECO to stand firm and exhibit a high sense of responsibility towards creating an enabling atmosphere for a new executive to be ushered in through an election slated for on or before the end of July, 2021.

Kpokpo was optimistic and confident that the newly constituted CECO will drive a robust process for a successful future for the IYC.

He called on stakeholders in various clans to support the initiatives of the founding fathers of IYC for a more purposeful leadership.

Similarly, IYC’s national mobilization officer, Comrade Israel Fubara, expressed joy, noting that the congress was a signal of the Ijaw people’s to harness their full potentials towards the growth of the body.

He advised the CECO to be transparent in all their dealings and to bring out the best in their task of rejuvenating the IYC.

The national officer also acknowledged the wisdom and zeal of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) in intervening in the Eastern Zone crisis, pointing out that the youth body will welcome the outcome of their intervention.

Prof. Clement West, IYC elder, assured the body of his support at all times. He maintained that the era of falsehood is over and prayed for the sustenance of IYC.

He promised to launch  a scholarship and empowerment scheme to assist Ijaw youths in the zone.

Okaan Ama of Egeile, Chief Akankpo and Chief K.K Owurong, in separate speeches, lauded the leadership of IYC, Eastern Zone. They called on all stakeholders to support the initiatives and leadership of Hon. Tamuno Kpokpo for an efficient drive towards achieving greatness for IYC.

Members of the new CECO are: Mbosowo A. Mbosowo (chairman), Sepiribo C.T. Briggs (secretary), Walter Julius, Miebaka Ambo and Simeon Igbiks
