It’s Never Too Early To Discuss 2023 Elections in Delta ~ Oyibokure

By Young Erhiurhoro, Warri

Mr. Irorohwo Goodluck Oyibokure, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart from Uwheru Ward in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, has dismissed fears by some that it was too early to discuss matters pertaining to the 2023 general elections, noting that, “it’s never too early to discuss 2023 elections in the state.”

The public administrator made this known recently at Uwheru town during the funeral service held in honour of late Ven. Dr. Robinson Arhawo, at St. Thomas Anglican Church.

In a media chat with our correspondent immediately after the service, conducted by the Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, Anglican Communion and now archbishop – elect of Bendel Province, Most. Rev. Dr. Cyril Odutemu, Oyibokure said, “It’s never too early to discuss about the 2023 general elections. At least, the earlier we start the better for us.

“In advanced countries with strong democratic base like the US, this is what we call ‘Political Education.’ By now, the people should be aware of what will happen in 2023. You will be surprised to know that there are some youths in this state that doesn’t even know anything about the general elections in 2023.

“However, based on the PDP zoning system in the state, I so much thank God, the other senatorial districts in the state are fully aware and also in full support of Delta Central’s turn to produce the next governor of the state. That is incontestable by any politician in the state.

“In this regard, I must thank our working and listening governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who is already throwing his support behind the Urhobos to produce governor that would succeed him come 2023. He’s a man with a very strong political foresight. Narrowing it down to the Delta State House of Assembly elections, I’m from Ughelli North constituency 2, and I also believe it’s the turn of Uwheru Ward to produce the House of Assembly member to represent the constituency come 2023.

“It’s better we know all these very early enough to enable us put our house together and begin to set out our political machineries, knowing fully well that there are other political parties in the state that would contest the elections together,” he said.

When asked to comment on the consultation visits by some politicians ahead of the 2023 general elections and whether he’s nursing a political ambition come 2023, Oyibokure replied: “Yes, I learnt there are some politicians that are already embarking on consultation visits to party leaders and to various communities at the moment. All I can say in this issue is that, it’s not early to embark on such consultation visits.

“All we are supposed to do now is to join hands together as a political party to do our internal planning and to also put out our political machineries. Such visits will definitely come but we still have some time ahead. As a party, we should know that we have very strong oppositions in the state and this should make us to play our game with wisdom this time.

“To answer your question whether I’m nursing a political ambition against 2023, well, every man is a politician. For now, I don’t really have such ambition to contest any elective position. I’m an active member of the party and I must support my party in every possible way to win. Like what I said earlier, we still have some time ahead. We can’t just be unfolding our dreams everywhere now. Let’s still be patient about this noise making every now and then,” he warned.
