The ancient town of Evwreni in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State was in a festive mood recently as the former president-general of Unenurhie community, Hon. Ivwighren Osiobe aka ‘Okparan,’ married his new wife, Mrs. Gladys Osiobe, nee Oguns in grand style.
The marital rites which were performed according to the customs and traditions of the Evwreni people at the bride family compound in Uneni community of Evwreni kingdom drew together friends and family members of the new couple.
Performing the marital rites at the compound of late Chief Oguns, the father of the bride, the family head prayed for their daughter and her husband to live long and to also enjoy together the fruits of their marriage in peace, love and unity. He also prayed God to bless the new couple with responsible children that would continue to uphold the legacies of the family in the nearest future.
Speaking to our correspondent during the reception organized for guests and dignitaries, the groom, Hon. Ivwighren Osiobe said, “I’m happy today as a true Urhobo and African man. I paid my wife’s dowry according to the traditions and customs of her people to show the love I have for her and also to bring her honour and respect as a responsible house wife.
“In this vein, I have nothing to offer to all our guests here than to appreciate them for honoring our invitation to share this moment of joy and celebration with us. I thank my family members and in-laws that are present here today. In the same way, I also thank my friends and business associates for finding time out of their tight schedule to share this celebration with us. In fact, the list of guests will be endless if I continue to mention their names one after the other. In fact, words are not enough to express my joy to God for his mercies and abundant grace upon us and for his traveling mercies granted upon us.”
Also during the reception, another former president-general of Unenurhie community and a mentee of the celebrant, Hon. Felix Edjereki aka ‘Chief Ibori, congratulated the new couple and wished them, especially his mentor and master, God’s benevolence.
“I’m really happy to be here to celebrate with my mentor and master and his wife today. Hon. Osiobe is a worthy leader in all ramifications. This is why, if you look everywhere, you see a lot of dignitaries that graced the occasion because of the kind of person he is. He’s always very supportive to the less privileged in the society especially the youths. All of us that are here are his boys and we are here to celebrate the moment with him and his new wife. Let me congratulate them again for a successful and peaceful marriage celebration.
“I also want to join my master to express my warmest greetings to all the invited guests that are present in this occasion. We are truly happy for this great celebration today,” he said.
High point of the marriage reception was the presentation of different household gifts and cash gifts to the new couple in town by family members, guests and friends.
