The saying that a golden fish has no hiding place played out recently when the area comptroller of Customs in charge of Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, M.A. Umar, was honoured by media professionals, under the auspices of the Niger Delta Media Forum, for distinguishing himself in the discharge of his responsibilities to the Nigeria customs service and the nation in general.
The group, which is based in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, said Comptroller Umar, who bagged an award for ‘Outstanding Performance,’ was honoured for his outstanding leadership and contributions “to the growth of Nigerian economy through effective and efficient revenue generation as well as ensuring fiscal policy compliance in the command which have impacted positively on the economy.”
Responding, Comptroller Umar expressed appreciation to the group for finding him worthy of the award, while assuring that he will continue to do his best in the service of the nation and humanity.
He described the award as special, as according to him, it came from the Niger Delta where he had spent most part of his life in the Nigeria Customs. He used the opportunity to commend the officers and men of the command for their support which he said had translated to the successes been recorded in the command especially with regard to the improved revenue profile which stands at over N14 billion (fourteen billion Naira) in the first quarter of 2022.
The award ceremony, which was brief and colourful, took place in the office of the comptroller in Kano and was witnessed by senior officers of the command.
