…As Candidate Targets Human Capital Development

The Lawmaker representing Obio Akpor federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Okechukwu Kingsley Chinda has called on the residents of the local government to rally round the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship candidate, Dr. Gift Worlu in the August 30, Council elections in the state.

Hon. Chinda who spoke to newsmen after the conclusion of the PDP primary election which endorsed Dr. Worlu as its Chairmanship candidate for the local government area, described Dr. Worlu as a good product which will not pose problems to market to the people. According to the Legislator, the collective adoption of candidates by both the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the PDP was not unprecedented as it had always happened even at the national level, stressing that with good products like Dr. Worlu, people irrespective of party will always identify with the best. “All you want is developing your local government not about political party. I think we have a good candidate and every true Obio Akpor son should key behind him,” Chinda stated. Chinda who is the Minority Leader in the House of Representatives said the people should expect the best from Dr. Worlu who he described as a seasoned administrator who he said, has assured of focusing on human capital development if he emerges as the chairman of the Council.
Dr. Worlu who equally spoke with newsmen, assured that he has all it takes to rewrite the the socio-economic, political and cultural landscape of the local government adding that he decided to leave the classroom to show that it was possible for things to be done differently and better results achieved.
Dr. Worlu, a former Lecturer with the University of Port Harcourt said he will pay attention to human capital development in the local government area stressing his commitment to embark on trainings and reorienting the mindsets of the people to play certain roles which will enable the people participate fully in the economic activities of the country. The PDP Chairmanship candidate regretted that Obio Akpor people has not played key roles in the socio-economic activities in the country, assuring that that his coming will change the narratives of governance in the Local Government area. “My coming is to change the narratives. It is to make our people understand that everybody don’t have to depend on money from politics. Everybody does not need to run after politicians. People must be led to the place where they can find meaning in life through cognate training that addresses their needs as individuals. That is what I am going to do,” Dr. Worlu declared.
He pledged to work with everybody in the Obio Akpor Council if elected to develop programmes and policies that will address the various issues affecting the local government area. The Chairmanship candidate while stating that infrastructural development in the local government will also top his priority attention, however noted that human beings are required to make use of the infrastructure in place. “For me, development is all about the people whether infrastructure or any other thing being done, the target must be the people. And for me, if we are able to lift the people out of poverty. If we are able to show the people the way. If we are able to convince our people that some of the things they do are not sustainable and they agree to be part of reinventing themselves and reengineering the ecosystem, I am sure that Obio Akpor in the next 2-3 years will be a place everybody would want to come to”, the candidate stated.
Dr. Gift Worlu had emerged the consensus Chairmanship candidate of the PDP for Obio Akpor Council in a primary elections held at Rumueprikom Civic Center in the area.
