The Africa Blue Economy Roundtable, ABER, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Ako Joan AFANGAH Orock as National Coordinator of ABER for the Republic of Cameroon, effective immediately.
Mrs. Orock currently serves as Deputy Director for Maritime Border Area Development at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development of Cameroon. Her extensive experience in sustainable development, maritime governance, and border area planning makes her uniquely positioned to advance ABER’s mission in Cameroon and across the Central Africa region.
With over 400km of Atlantic coastline and major river systems, Cameroon’s Blue Economy holds significant potential for job creation, food security, and climate resilience. ABER’s appointment of Mrs. Orock reinforces the organization’s commitment to working with government leaders to unlock this potential in an inclusive and sustainable manner.
In her new role, Mrs. Orock will coordinate ABER’s programs and partnerships across Cameroon, working with government, private sector, academia, and coastal communities, establish ABER Blue Clubs in schools and riverine/coastal areas to promote ocean literacy, conservation, and youth enterprise.
Advance policy alignment between ABER initiatives, Cameroon’s national development plans, and the AU 2050 Africa’s Integrated Maritime Strategy, mobilize support for women and youth-led blue enterprises in fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, and maritime trade as well as drive regional collaboration with other ABER National Coordinators in Central Africa
Speaking on the appointment, Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo, Convener/CEO of ABER, said:

Her position within government and her dedication to maritime border communities make her the ideal leader to champion ABER’s vision in Cameroon. Mrs. Orock’s tenure as National Coordinator is for an initial period of 2 years, renewable based on performance.
