Bayelsa: Diri Wins Re-Election with 175,196 Votes

The incumbent governor of Bayelsa State, and governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Douye Diri has been declared winner of the just concluded November 11 governorship election in the state.

Returning Officer for the Bayelsa State governorship election, Prof. Kuta Farouk, made the declaration on Monday evening at the INEC headquarters in Yenagoa.

Our correspondent reports that Douye Diri, who contested the November 11, 2023 election against 16 other candidates, won 6 out of 8 local government areas of the state with 175,196 votes to defeat his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who got 110,108 votes, while Labour Party’s Udengs Eradiri came third with 905 votes.

Prof Farouk said, “Diri Douye of PDP, having certified by the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Bayelsa State has 8 local government areas, which include; Brass, Ekeremor, Nembe, Ogbia, Kolukuma/Opokuma, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa.

The results, as declared, showed: 

Total Registered Voters = 1,56,862,

Accredited Voters = 37,2000

The Political Parties scored as follows:

Accord = 17, 

AA = 11

ADC = 292, 

ADP = 322, 

APC = 110,108,

APGA = 70,

APM = 26,

APP = 14,

BP = 26,

LP = 905,

NNPP = 17,

NRM = 415,

PDP = 175,196,

PRP = 69,

ADP = 45,

ZLP = 21.

TOTAL VALID VOTES =287,554

VOTES REJECTED = 3658
