Bayelsa Assembly Assures ‘Good Working Relationship’ with Akassa Devt Foundation

Recieves ‘Stone-Free’ Akassa Rice

Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Abraham Ingobere, has received sample of Akassa Swamp Rice from the executive secretary of Akassa Development Foundation (ADF), Mr Inatimi Odio.

Ingobere, who was obviously elated over the efforts of the management of ADF as well as other farmers in Akassa Clan, probed the viability and survival of the rice species in the Atlantic coastal region.

He asked farmers to be organized, and encouraged them to form various co-operative groups in the area to attract government credit facilities for their agricultural engagements.

The chairman, House committee on Agriculture, Rt. Hon. Tonye Isenah Emmanuel PhD, commended the Akassa Development Foundation for its efforts in promoting agricultural development in  Akassa and its environs, which is in line with the ‘Prosperity Government’ of Senator Douye Diri, adding that agriculture is an alternative money spinner.

Rt. Hon Isenah reiterated government’s commitment to support agricultural development in the state by working with viable organized groups such as ADF, and promised to introduce ADF to the commissioner for Agriculture in order to encourage other interventionist agencies to support similar initiatives in their respective areas of endeavor.

The executive secretary of ADF, Mr. Inatimi Odio, who informed the Assembly members that the rice is stone-free, commended Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Abraham Ingobere for his financial empowerment, provision of farm inputs, fishing gears and encouragement to young farmers.

He said efforts have been made to engage foreign countries on the salinity of the environment and provision of special species of rice that will survive and stand the farming season.
