Bayelsa Senator Calls for Peace in Opu-Nembe

Senator Representing Bayelsa East senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Benson Agadaga has sued for peace over the repeated armed and violent invasion of Opu Nembe (Bassambiri), in Nembe Local Government Area of the state.

Senator Agadaga, who was a commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy and immediate past chief of staff, Government House, described the situation as shameful and wickedness to humanity.  

While addressing journalists in Yenagoa, he said that he had watched keenly the “unfolding ugly events in Opu Nembe in Nembe Local Government Area of the state and equally listened to the biased position of the security agencies on the happenings in Opu Nembe and found the situation shameful and a wickedness to humanity.” 

The senator added that in sympathy with the people of Opu Nembe on the invasion of armed gun men shooting randomly and sporadically to cause chaos, panic and fear in the land, and called on the Federal Government, Inspector General of Police, the military and all relevant security agencies to urgently intervene and restore normalcy in Opu Nembe.

The senator also said the situation in Nembe is political and may not be unconnected with the build up to the November 11 Gubernatorial Election in the state. 

He urged the people of Opu Nembe to remain law abiding and uphold the standard of peace in the midst of the horrible situation to avoid more damage and destruction of lives and properties. He assured that the Douye Diri led administration is fully with the people of Opu Nembe to overcome this phase.
