Families in Nange-Ama community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State at the weekend escaped death by the whiskers following the collapse of a telecommunications mast, that left their building crushed.

The telecommunication mast, which is reportedly owned by one of the leading mobile telephone company, Airtel, fell and destroyed properties worth millions of naira including a building.

Port Harcourt Mundial gathered from the incident, which occurred on Tuesday May 31 2022 at about 6:30am, that a telecommunication mast owned by Airtel Nigeria was erected in a residential area, allegedly “without considering its radius and reach.”

Several properties were reportedly destroyed including a well furnished six bedroom bungalow owned by Mrs. Eva Efere, who was inside the house alongside three others when the unfortunate event occurred.

Our correspondent however said no life was lost in the incident.

Mrs Efere, while confirming the incident to newsmen in Yenagoa, expressed shock and disbelief at the incident. “I lost touch with reality for about a minute before I regained consciousness. I thought a bomb is being detonated”.

Other properties destroyed include the Nange-Ama community high tension cables, a farmland and an uncompleted duplex. A source said, “the victims have been neglected, abandoned and inhumanely treated as they have been left alone to battle with their mental torture and homelessness.”
