A social group of sons and daughters of Uwheru kingdom, both home and abroad with the name, ‘Oborifori Forum’ has installed a new sign board for Udu Primary School, Uwheru.

Speaking at the event to mark the installation, one of the leaders of the group who is also the DPO of ‘B’ Division, Warri, Delta State, CSP Benjamin Igometi, said, “The Oborifori Forum is a social media group of Uwheru indigenes, both home and in diaspora.

“Our purpose of creating this group is to link us to our people at home so that we can equally participate in community development. In this regard, we now considered it important to start this pet project of installing a new sign board in this our old primary school by voluntary donations. We didn’t tax anybody in the group. It was basically on voluntary donations.

“Let me at this time appreciate all those that took it upon themselves to see the need to embark on this noble community/social service by donating freely. And I still want to appeal to those that haven’t donated to do so because some of the classrooms in the school also need to be renovated. Many of them are leaking seriously. Children can’t learn under such harsh conditions. This is why we still need their financial support to do other maintenance work in the school.

“This is the oldest primary school in the entire Uwheru kingdom. Most of us that are well placed in the society today went to this primary school. This is why we should contribute our quota to the development of the school. I’m happy that we are able to achieve our dream of installing a new sign board in the school today,” the senior police officer said.

The sign board after installation

Appreciating the selfless efforts of the concerned indigenes of the community, the headmistress of the school who was highly elated, expressed gratitude to the members of the social group for considering it important to install a new sign board in the school, despite the economic hardship the ravaging corona virus pandemic placed everybody in.

“Words are not enough to convey my sincere appreciations to you, the members of this social group. On behalf of pupils and staff of Udu Primary School, Uwheru, we say thank you and the Almighty God will richly bless you to do more for our school.

“I still want to plead with our leaders and the government to come to our aid. You can see that, most of the classrooms are leaking seriously. They need to be renovated. Our children can’t learn under such poor conditions. The Delta State government and good spirited individuals like this social group should do something now to salvage the situation,” she said.

The event ended with the official handing over and presentation of the sign board to the school authority by leaders of the social group amidst cheers and applause.
