Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs Wednesday received the flag from the national chairman of Accord Party, Alh Mohammed Malado, to represent the party in the March 2019 election governorship in Rivers State.

Speaking after receiving the flag, Lulu-Briggs perhaps now the only viable challenge against the incumbent, Chief Nyesom Wike of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), after the courts had narrowed the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) participating in the elections, said that the reason he has was offering himself again to run as governor of Rivers State was to provide good governance.

He said that his goal as governor of Rivers State is to actualise people-oriented governance where no one is oppressed and to uphold the African value where everyone is his brother’s keeper noting that the best of the current state government was not good enough.

He explained that that has become imperative because of the negative statistics of the state on some key economic and development indices saying that according to National Bureau of Statistics NBS, the unemployment records for the state in 2017 shows that out 10 persons in the state, 4 of them have nothing to do.

Reeling out other statistics pointing to the downward trajectory of the state, socially, politically and economically Lulu-Briggs stated: “It is indisputable that the problem of Rivers State is that of political leadership. Leadership plays a key role in the advancement or otherwise of a nation.  “Once we get the 2019 governorship right, we shall get the economy right and usher in an era of prosperity”.

Lulu-Briggs stated that it is his unwavering conviction that conviction that it is “our inalienable duty, at this time defining moment the of our dear state, to ensure we effectively articulate and implement the proper policies, measures and initiatives that are collectively geared toward arresting the current governance deficit in the state in order to adequately prepare Rivers State foran effective take-off on a trajectory of sustainable and inclusive development”.

“What purpose has political leadership served Rivers people since 1999. Have we had a leadership that envisions a future where the greatness of Rivers State is the focus,” he queried.

“We must be the California of Nigeria or at least the Texas of Nigeria” Lulu-Briggs declared, adding “we shall be known by the number of Rivers people who by our efforts have owned their own businesses and who by our efforts owned their own houses. We shall be known not by Mr. Projects but by Mr Jobs”.

He said he would base his government on three key values of sincerity of purpose, clarity of goals and dedication to achieve set targets.

He said: “The conspiracy to stop Dumo Lulu-Briggs is strong but my passion for Rivers is stronger. I am conscious I have God’s blessings so I can fight against an existing political system”.

Presenting the flag to the Governorship flag bearer and other candidates, the National Chairman of Accord Party, Mohammed Malado stated the conviction of the party that the choice of Lulu-Briggs as their flag bearer was a good one.

He said: “We believe as a party we have made a good choice. The faces here testify to that. We are on the right part. Before we chose him we have heard so much about him.”

He congratulated the people for accepting him as their candidate describing the party as a party of peace which gives priority to human capital development.
